Large, Clear Jar The SmartJar is a clear, cylindrical container, 2½ inches in diameter and 4½ inches tall, with a clear, snap tight lid. They are durable, top-shelf dishwasher safe and have a real hinge. They're just big enough for little hands to get in and will hold up to 1¼ cups (10 fluid oz.) They are food-safe (no BPA) and odor-free. Simple, Modular Dock The SmartJar Dock takes up 3” x 3” on your pegboard and comes in assorted colors. It is designed to snap easily and securely into standard pegboard measuring between 1/8" to 3/16" thick, with 1/4" diameter holes on 1" spacing. Standard pegboard is widely available on Amazon.com and other large retailers. (This product is not designed for use with thin, metal pegboard or the ¼” thick pegboard.) Stowing your Stuff It's as simple as it gets: Put your stuff in the jar and snap it shut. Arranging the Docks The docks snap solidly into pegboard. Nothing loose here. Do you need to rearrange them? About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words.What you need.How did you come up with the idea for this product?SmartJars evolved from a nagging desire to organize our spices. As fans of flavor and BBQ enthusiasts, we found a motley assortment of jars and baggies spilling from our spice cabinet. Most of the available spice jars on the market were too small for the quantities we cook in, they were also expensive, and they didn’t look all that great. We found containers that worked somewhat, but for one reason or another just weren’t fitting the bill. Many didn’t seal well, smelled of chemicals, were of poor quality, or weren’t transparent. As product developers, it was a clear there was a better way to organize not only spices but all kinds of small stuff.What makes your product special?SmartJars design, testing, and marketing all takes place in a 1000-sq-ft studio in southern California. It’s a small operation: A few engineers, an office manager that keeps the wheels in motion, and an occasional intern. Our engineering team specializes in mechanical design, meaning we do plastics, metal, and moving stuff. We’re quintessential makers. As the product was being developed, we quickly saw we could use it to organize our own workshop. We have parts and pieces for everything we build and now we know where to find them. Why did we design this organizing system? Because we needed it the most.What has been the best part of your startup experience?We have a great product and a vision for where we want to take it. There’s more to it, though. We strive for the utmost in quality and that is reflected in the value we provide to our customers.
